Re: 1.0 Functional Skills 11/12 grade position
Dear Dave Horsey:
I would very much like to be considered for the position that Shamara Lang has vacated at Placer High School. I know the kids, as I did art with them as a volunteer for the first semester in 2006/2007. I worked with the students who helped with Smoothies and walked with them at the track as we combined PE when I worked with Heather’s students on Wednesdays for that .1 position that I held last year. More than that, I like these students, I am familiar to these students, and they like me. This population needs familiarity to make change easily, and I feel that the students should have as much ease in transition as possible.
I feel qualified to take on this role as my art room was alongside Shamara’s room, and we shared windows into each other’s world. I know that her students require some training in Pro-Act, which I would be glad to pursue, but my success in dealing with them in the past has been very high, and I think I can help them take their next steps in the transitions out of our high school setting into their independent lives.
I feel I could collaborate with Heather Snow a great deal, and fill the expectations that she had developed in planning and partnering with Shamara, and that the growing program that the district is taking on from the county can have the high standards that the parents have come to expect. I know that I can do art with these kids, and provide them with support as they reach into the community and learn how to function in society. I feel I have an understanding of what the job is, and I would take it on with enthusiasm and integrity.
The internship that I have from Chapman would certainly accommodate any Special Education position 50% or above, and my mild to moderate focus for my Level 1 Credential can be adjusted to moderate/severe, with the assumption of one course.
These students need the right guide to help them on their journey to success. Given the short notice of this staffing change, I would like to offer myself as that guide.
Thank you for considering me,
Katy Fries
